1. Oswald was a good sniper thats why he waited, he know that it was easier to hit a target when it's a little bit further away but don't movie that rapidly in the rifle scope.
2. Oswald didn't have to move his riffle as much as if JFK was straight down from Oswald's window, easier to miss.
3. Any amateur had stressed and shot when JFK was in front of Oswald's window, and missed.
Oswald was cool and waited, easier to hit, steady hands.
